Calne Clean Up Crew

This time we have an update from the Calne Clean Up Crew, one of our valued It's Your Neighbourhood community groups, with details about an exciting new project that will add to the beauty of High Street.

Removing litter that detracts from
the beautiful blooms in the town.
Cath Crofts started Calne Clean Up Crew in February 2018 when, fed up with the amount of litter on our streets and in our hedgerows, she started picking it up.

Since then, it has grown into a collective of c70 local people, who give up their time to litter pick in the local area. Many people just pick up as they go about their daily lives but we also:

·       Organise social group picks at least one a week
·       Take school, nursery and youth groups out and encourage them to care for where they live
·       Loan equipment to Employers for team building and social responsibility events
·       Certify volunteering for young people doing Duke of Edinburgh awards

As our reputation has grown, we have been invited to collaborate with other local groups, local council councils and Wiltshire Council on local projects including:

·       Community art projects (including the recent 'Greetings from Calne' mural, find out more here).
·       Installation of new rubbish bins in litter hotspots
·       And new for 2023, the installation of 3 tree planters and several smaller planters in the centre of Calne to improve the aesthetics, air quality and biodiversity in the town centre.

There are lots of ways to get involved, and lots of benefits associated with getting outside, doing something worthwhile and meeting other people.
